2013 Lighting for Tomorrow winners announced

Winners were selected in the 2013 Lighting for Tomorrow design competition, a competition that challenges manufacturers to meet consumer expectations by improving the desing of their products and technologies while achieving new heights of energy efficiency.
Entries for 2013 featured indoor and outdoor light emitting diode (LED) lighting fixtures, replacement lamps, fixture retrofit kits, lighting controls, and for the first time, organic light emitting diode (OLED) lighting fixtures. The 2013 judging panel, which included Home Accents Today Editor in Chief Jenny Heinzen York, reviewed a total of 123 products in June at Underwriters Laboratories (UL) University in Research Triangle Park, N.C., including 70 LED indoor fixtures, eight LED outdoor fixtures, 26 LED lamps, nine LED retrofit kits, seven lighting control devices, and three OLED fixtures.
Of the LED fixture submissions, the judges selected five winners. Legrand won for its adorne Under-Cabinet Lighting System, and also received an Innovation Award from the judges to recognize the inventive, holistic system approach embodied in the product. Juno Lighting Group won for its Juno Arc LED Trac Fixture. LITON Lighting received an award for its 2-inch Mini-Arc Recessed LED Downlight. Philips Consumer Luminaires North America won for its LED Pendant Holder and Samjin Lnd Co., Ltd won for its Circular Ceiling Light. The following four entries received honorable mention recognition: Edge Lighting's Scope LED Pendant, Juno Lighting Group's Cylindra Miniature LED Trac Fixture Series, Prism Co., Ltd's TLC-4300BK Desk Lamp, and WAC Lighting's LED Picture Light. Lastly, Juno Lighting Group gained a noteworthy recognition for its Slope Ceiling
Generation 3 LED Downlight.
Within the LED replacement lamp category, the judges selected two winners, one honorable mention, and one noteworthy product. LEDnovation received an award for its Bright for Life BR30 LED Lamp, and SWITCH Lighting won for its SWITCH infinia 60 LED A-Lamp. Illumination Machines received an honorable mention for its AtrialLight, and Acuity Brands won noteworthy recognition for its Acculamp Dimmable PAR38.
In the lighting controls category, Lutron Electronics Co., Inc. took both the winner and noteworthy award for its Maestro Occupancy Sensor C.L Dimmer and Hi-Lume A-Series LED driver, respectively.
In OLED lighting fixtures, the judges reviewed three entries and selected one winner: the Vela Chandelier by Modern Forms: a WAC Lighting Company.
Awards were presented at the American Lighting Association's annual conference in Lost Pines, Texas on September 24. Winners will be showcased in awards brochures that highlight the LED winners, lighting control winners, and OLED winner. In addition, these products and companies will be featured in journal articles and trade show exhibits throughout the coming year.
