Ambiente names Design Plus Award 2014 winners

An international jury has selected 30 products and product series to receive the Design Plus Award 2014, all of which
Ambiente will present the Design Plus Award winners in a special exhibition in Galleria 1 at the February trade fair in Frankfurt.
The Design Plus Award, in its 31st year, recognizes high standards of design quality, utility value and sustainability by honoring products that are innovative in terms of idea and execution or distinguished by new concepts.
"The entries for the 2014 Design Plus competition reflect not only the high standard of design prevailing today but also the trend towards projecting familiar, everyday products into a contemporary context and, in many cases, fully reconsidering them," said Nicolette Naumann, vice president, Ambiente/Tendence. Chilewich was honored for its "Ribbon" placemats and runners.
New York-based Chilewich won the award for its "Ribbon" contemporary and functional placemats and runners, which are knit on old ribbon machines in the Garment District and designed for indoor and outdoor use. "The Design Plus 2014 award recognized innovation in the housewares industry, which is our world," said company founder and designer Sandy Chilewich. "It is very gratifying as a designer to be acknowledged for our contribution."
The members of the awards jury were Mark Braun (designer), Volker Hohmann (Ikarus Design Handel), Hugo Macdonald (Studioilse), Hubert Kittel (Burg Giebichenstein / Kunsthochschule Halle), Stefan Nilsson (Trendgruppen), Philipp Mainzer (E15) and the sponsors represented by Andrej Kupetz (German Design Council) and Julia Droege (Frankfurt am Main Chamber of Industry and Commerce).
The winning entries will be on display in a special exhibit in Galleria 1 at Ambiente, Messe Frankfurt, Feb. 7-11, 2014.
