Pinnacle Awards honors top product designers
Home Accents Today Staff -- Home Accents Today, October 24, 2013
The 18th annual Pinnacle Awards ceremony was held this week during the High Point Market.
The event was hosted by Furniture Today Editor in Chief Ray Allegrezza and Alexa Hampton, owner and president of design firm Mark Hampton.
Furniture Today is a major underwriter of the annual Pinnacle Awards, which were created in 1995 by the American Society of Furniture Designers to promote design quality and recognize the talent of furniture industry designers.
Winners in the home accents categories (and comments from the judges) were:
Aviator by Kim Price for Kavante
"The Aviator Cocktail Table is deemed ‘a clear winner' by the judges as an outstanding contemporary design. The silhouette is elegant and sophisticated, and offers sleek hidden functionality. The judges laud the availability of custom sizes and finishes as a bonus for consumers and interior designers."
Create A Curio by Davide Tonizzo for Buhler Furniture
"Create A Curio defies the rumored death of the curio in today's marketplace and takes the category to a top place. The creative use of the door fronts offers great versatility. Another interesting facet of this design is the ability to customize."
Cavaletti by David Kitts, David Martin and Zach Pyle for Hubbardton Forge
"This design team has taken the hand-forged tradition of Hubbardton Forge to a new high point with Cavaletti. The sculptural, jewelry-like use of metal helps the fixture resemble a mobile, but notably with delicate detail. "
Zahra Collection by Satya Tiwari for Surya
"The judges salute the fact that area rugs have become a mandatory element in accessorizing homes today with the highest marks for the Zahra Collection for Surya. Another winning component of the product line is the outstanding use of color."
Green Leaf Award
Pastiche Chest by Timothy Ledford for David Francis Furniture
The judges say this "proves that good-looking products can be made with eco-friendly materials and techniques."
Other winners were:
