Vernon joins Burdines
Long-time home furnishings merchandiser Dave Vernon has joined Burdines as senior vp, gmm of home, a successor to Nancy Katz, who resigned last year to join Bed Bath & Beyond. Vernon most recently was with Fresno, CA-based Gottschalks, where he held the same position.
Target refutes discrimination claim
Target has refuted recent allegations by the U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) that the company has been unfair in its hiring practices and has discriminated against qualified black applicants. The EEOC recently filed a lawsuit against Target regarding three applicants in the Milwaukee area. According to Todd Blackwell, senior vp, human resources, Target Stores and Target Corp., "Target Corp. is, and always will be, an equal opportunity employer. We are proud of our track record and commitment to diversity in our work force."
Gottschalks cuts deal for financing
Gottschalks Inc. has cut a new financing pact that provides it with up to $165 million in borrowing ability. The new revolving credit facility has a term of three years and a maturity date of Jan. 31, 2005. GE Capital is acting as administrative agent for the lender syndicate, which also includes CIT Business Credit.
