Redefined Home opens in Atlanta, Splendid Nest in Minnesota

Redefined HomeAtlanta - Redefined Home Boutique, owned by David D'Ambrosio, opened in May at 877 Howell Mill Rd. D'Ambrosio studied interior design at American Intercontinental University before opening Redefined, a 5,000-sq.-ft. renovated space showcasing fine furniture, accessories, lighting, gifts and objets d'art.

St. Louis - I.O. Metro opened a new store at 11 The Boulevard in Richmond Heights, and is opening three locations in Georgia this month. The company is owned by Jay and Christine Howard.

Geneva, Ill. - 610 Home opened at 610 S. First St. The home furnishings store features antique, new and vintage products and is owned by Barbara Freeman, Catherine Connor and Mary James Garvey. Chicago Magazine's August 2010 issue listed 610 Home as one of the area's best new home stores.

Bradenton, Fla. - The Rustic Rose opened at 8328 U.S. 301 N. in Parrish. The home accents and gift store stocks wall decor, decorative accessories, gifts, specialty candles, silk floral arrangements, jewelry and handbags. Owner Rosalyn Housley also has a Rustic Rose store in Hayesville, N.C.

Garden City, N.Y. - Devonshire Home Design opened at 739 Franklin Ave. Owner Kurt Ericsson has a 20-year career in interior design and was previously a buyer/showroom manager at Windham House on the North Shore of Long Island. In addition to interior design services, Ericsson's shop features home furnishings, decorative accessories, artwork, lighting, fabrics, tableware, mirrors, clocks and unique giftware.

Overland Park, Kansas - Furniture and home decor retailer Featherstone Home Accents relocated to 6527 W. 119th St. in Overland Park, about a half-mile east of its old address. The store will celebrate a grand reopening at its new location in The Fountains shopping center Sept. 16-26.

Des Moines, Iowa - Regina Glawe, owner of R Home, purchased Pegasus Gallery and merged the two businesses into the gallery's space at 218 Fifth St. in West Des Moines. R Home was previously at 132 Fifth St. in Valley Junction. Glawe also changed the name to R Home & Pegasus Gallery. The move and merger doubled the showroom space for R Home. The business carries a mix of mid-century modern furniture and home decor, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams furniture, original art, prints, limited editions and provides custom framing.

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Home Accents II, a home accessories and furniture store, reopened at a new 22,000-sq.ft. location in July. Owners Tammy and Lee Luscher, and Jim and Amelia Toney, bought property and built the new store in a high-traffic area along U.S. 17 Business South after spending seven years in the store's former location in Deerfield Plaza. The store also offers interior design services. Home Accents II is located at 410 U.S. 17 Business South, Surfside Beach.

Murfreesboro, Tenn. - Linens & More for Less opened a new 30,000-sq.-ft. home and gift store, its third location, at The Avenue Murfreesboro, 2615 Medical Center Pkwy. The chain launched its first store earlier this summer in Warren, Ohio.

Atlanta - The Avenue Forsyth announced the addition of Heirloom Home Furnishings and La Maisonnette home accents store.

Warren, Mich. - Art Van Furniture acquired Brewbaker's, a family-run furniture, electronics and appliances retailer in business in Michigan since 1959. Brewbaker's operated a 32,000-sq.-ft. showroom in Onaway with a 35,000-sq.-ft. warehouse, and a 40,000-sq.-ft. showroom in Petoskey. Art Van said the acquisition will help it further leverage its 1 million-sq.-ft. distribution center in Warren, Mich., as well as its advertising in northern Michigan. The Brewbaker's stores will reopen in October as Art Van, upping the latter's full-line-store count to 33. "Now we can truly say you don't have to drive more than an hour to find an Art Van store in the state of Michigan," said Diane Charles, Art Van's director of corporate communications.

New Ulm, Minn.New Ulm, Minn. — The Splendid Nest recently opened in this river valley community at 210 N. Minnesota St. Owned by Kathleen Connell and her husband Jeff, the boutique and interior design studio offers fine gifts, home accents, jewelry, clothing and gourmet foods. Housed in a renovated hotel built in 1870, the shop was designed to complement the historic character of the building. “We want to stay current with new trends and styles, but also be respectful of traditions,” Kathleen Connell said. “We are more interested in unique lines that are typically not available in smaller towns like New Ulm and have gotten a great response.” The Connells said they’ve found value in networking with other shopowners while attending markets. “We find there are similar concerns and interests no matter what part of the country a business is located and almost always come away with a couple of very helpful ideas to manage our buying.”
     Art Van Furniture also announced last month it is launching Scott Shuptrine Interiors in eight of its 33 stores. "The Scott Shuptrine name is being revived because it has strong name recognition and high regard," said Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture. The three metro Detroit stores closed in 2002, but Art Van Furniture, the parent company, retained the carriage-house name. The design centers will be available in key stores that target the upper end client including Warren, Grand Rapids, Novi, Sterling Heights, Lansing, Traverse City and Petoskey. Each center will be 4,500 square feet, carry premiere furniture lines and staff two certified interior designers. The first two design centers in Warren and Grand Rapids will debut Sept. 28.

Marimekko is opening a 1,775-sq.-ft. shopin- shop in Crate and Barrel's SoHo, N.Y., store Oct. 14. The Marimekko shop will feature textiles, bed and bath, and other interior decoration products, plus bags, accessories and a representation of apparel. The two companies are also exploring further opportunities for collaboration, including additional U.S. shop-in-shops and e-commerce. The relationship between Crate and Barrel and the 60-year-old Finnish design house has spanned more than four decades. In other news, Crate and Barrel offshoot CB2 opened new stores in Santa Monica and Atlanta in August, and will open a store in Toronto in spring 2011. Hobby Lobby opened its 29th store in Ohio, at the Shops of Fairlawn, 3737 West Market St. The retailer, based in Oklahoma City, said it will create 30 to 50 full- and parttime jobs in the new 46,000-sq.-ft. location. Target opened its first store in Manhattan, in East Harlem with merchandise tailored to the neighborhood, including Spanish-language greeting cards, multicultural dolls, religious candles and Southern food produced locally.
