ATLANTA - Donald J. Hall, Jr., president and CEO of Hallmark Cards, Inc., has been named recipient of the ICON Honors 2013 Lifetime Achievement Honor by the ICON Honors board of governors in collaboration with the 2013 judges, according to Jeffrey L. Portman, Sr., president and CEO of ICON Honors sponsor AmericasMart Atlanta.
The Lifetime Achievement Honor will be conferred at the ICON Honors 2013 ceremony scheduled for Thurs., July 11, 2013 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. An important night in the gift and home industry, ICON Honors was founded and is staged by AmericasMart Atlanta and is sponsored exclusively by the Gift & Home Trade Association and Sandow Media.
The 2013 Lifetime Achievement Honor celebrates Hall's continuing contributions and leadership within the Hallmark family of companies and marks the Hallmark brand's iconic stature as an American enterprise of global reach and influence, Portman said of the honoree.
Founded in 1910 by Hall's grandfather from Nebraska with a couple shoeboxes of postcards under his arm and the American dream in his heart, Hallmark has been a family-owned business ever since. For over 100 years, the company has grown into a brand that employs 12,000 and offers products in 39,000 retail outlets in the U.S. as well as 100 countries around the world.
Hall assumed his current role in 2002 and also serves as vice chairman of the board. He joined the company in 1971, working in multiple areas - manufacturing, product development, sales and creative among them - before being named executive vice president of strategy and development in preparation for taking over the company's top position.
Like the family leaders before him, Hall continues to ensure that the essential human need to connect with others is fulfilled by the products and services that Hallmark offers - whether that's greeting cards, gifts, television shows or future opportunities yet to unfold.
"Don Hall, Jr. and the Hallmark brand he leads are the very essence of American enterprise and ingenuity," Portman said. "Over more than 100 years of innovation, Hallmark and the Hall family have helped to shape how our culture expresses itself across the great range of human emotion. Hallmark's contributions are inextricably linked to our lives."
At the 2013 ceremonies, the home and gift industry's best and brightest will be celebrated, and Grammy-winning musician Peter Frampton will perform in an exclusive private engagement. Guests will enjoy dinner, cocktails and celebrity entertainment in celebration of this year's finalists and honorees, which include home and gift retailers, manufacturers, sales agents and service providers from across the industry. Finalists for ICON Honors 2013 have been notified and the finalists and Honorees will be announced at the July 11 event.
