New Susan Sargent has bold look

New York — With the introduction of its latest licensed line by Susan Sargent, Springs Industries has made a decisive jump to a modern look with bold, contemporary colors.
The Susan Sargent Home collection will be previewed this mini-market for retailers. Marketed under the Wamsutta brand name, the line is aimed at the department and specialty store retail channels.
Three lines within the collection, master bedroom, juvenile and baby, all feature a mixture of bolder, fresher colors and upbeat designs. Sixteen beds will be available for preview in the master bedroom line, while five beds will be shown for juveniles and two for baby. Many of the beds have either coordinating bath, rugs or both.
"Susan is all about color and the way she approaches patterns and the way she combines color is very special," said Nancy Webster, vp of creative development. "We wanted her for specifically that reason. She has an energy we believe the marketplace needs and that is very refreshing."
Retail price points had not yet been set and were still under consideration.
Under the master bedroom category a sub-category features three beds, each with a woven jacquard top-of-bed. Only comforter sets or sheet sets will be offered in a full range of sizes, with the printed sheets constructed of 220-count cotton.
Swing Dance boasts a mixture of plum and magenta with a grapevine pattern, while the russet and gold ombre Pirouette features a distinctive all-over scroll. Jitterbug, in cooler tones of green, teal, blue and plum, features swirls, checks, diamonds and blocks on its face.
Also under the master bedroom line, but with 200-count cotton top-of-bed, are Lazy Paisley, Lazy Days Garden, Foxtrot, Lindy, Blue Waltz, Waltz Time, Sunshine Tango, Quickstep, Tap Dance, Mambo and Box Step. Many of the ensembles also include a 100 percent cotton quilt either designed specifically for the bed or with coordinating colors as well as a coordinating bath line. Offered only as bath is Fish Dance, which is complete with a cut shuttle chenille rug with velvet applique and chain-stitch embroidery.
In the juvenile collection, Pink Flutter, Animal Friends, Shoez, Fly Away and Boat Race will all be shown. Each ensemble offers 220-count cotton sheets and a comforter in a variety of colors such as spring green, magenta, teal and gold. Coordinating bath is also offered with Pink Flutter and Animal Friends.
Rounding out the Sargent unveiling are two beds for babies. Butterfly Dance depicts pink butterflies with a hand-painted look, while Family Farm has playful animals on its face. A cotton comforter, bedskirt, bumper and sheet are all available in 200-count cotton.
"The color palette in the collection is remarkably close to my high-end palette," Sargent told Home Textiles Today. "Just about everything here, it's amazing how true it is to my palette."
"We wanted her personality and perspective to be brought to our company, and we wanted her to be as vivid and bright as she always is," commented Webster, who added that Springs expects to ship by second quarter but will try to accommodate requests for earlier dates.
Sargent is also actively seeking manufacturing partners for area rugs, accessories and lamps. Her fabric collection, by Robert Allen, will be unveiled in April, as will her furniture, which is by Lexington.
