Several home accent companies contributed to Haitian relief efforts following the earthquake that devastated the small country in January.
Artisan House donated 10% of its Maison & Objet January market sales to the Order of Malta, American Association Haitian Earthquake Relief Fund. The association supports three major missions in Haiti: Haitian Health Foundation, Hospital Sacré Coeur-Crudem and Hope for Haiti.
Imax Worldwide Imports donated a portion of the proceeds from a grouping of red products to the American Red Cross for its work in Haiti. The red products were on display in Imax's winter showrooms and were also available for purchase on the company's Web site.
Kalalou's owners, Doug and Susan Williams, created and sent 200 "care packages" to Haiti for earthquake victims. Each package included a variety of necessities, including food, cookware, candles, soap, tools, personal care items and more. The Williams solicited donations to help defray the cost of putting the packages together and shipped them to Haiti as soon as the ports were open.
Howard Elliott executive Jean Joseph, president of the company's CTC division, is a Haitian citizen and the child of Haitian missionaries. Joseph and Howard Elliott encouraged people to donate money and supplies to the American Red Cross and Missionary Flights International, an operation that flies supplies into Haiti out of West Palm Beach, Fla.
Nourison employees at the company's Saddle Brook, N.J., headquarters set up a donation fund immediately following the earthquake to benefit the American Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders. Nearly everyone at the company pledged donations, and the Peykar family offered to make a matching gift.
W.A.C Lighting President Shelley Wang and her employees raised more than $30,000 to provide relief for earthquake victims. Wang said the company also worked closely with the American Red Cross to "consolidate funds and get help immediately." W.A.C. Lighting has also provided relief after other disasters and works with many foundations on a regular basis, including The American Red Cross and St. Jude Children's Hospital.
