The East India Company USA is exhibiting again this week at Interior Lifestyle USA, a trend showcase in the Las Vegas Convention Center held in conjunction with the Las Vegas Market.
President Rafique Kathwari said the company is presenting two distinct lines during the show. One is a line of decorative fabrics, and the other is a designer collection of delicately hand-embroidered coats and cashmere shawls
Both the Raj and Family Crewels collections feature romantic interior fabrics, embroidered on organza, linen and organdy, as well as coordinated fabrics.
The Family Crewels emphasizes the textile art of Kashmir, an ancient tradition of weaving and hand-embroidery made popular in 19th century France, and eventually all over Europe. The costly methods and ornate motifs were abandoned with the advent of power looms.
"Only Kashmiri artisans remained true to the ancient craft," said Rafique Kathwari, president of The East India Company USA. "They carry on their tradition in much the same way they did 150 years ago."
Kathwari said he considers it his mission to revive age-old skills and adapt them to the contemporary world with a vibrant style. "The rich textures, elaborate patterns and vibrant colors of our designs echo the opulence of the Old World and evoke the exoticism of India. The result is an amazing marriage of east and west."
The showroom is LVCC #63238. The Interior Lifestyle USA showcase is open through Friday.
