Susan Dickenson -- Home Accents Today, 11/27/2006 6:34:00 AM

* New York City’s Economic Development Corporation announced plans for a 128,000-sq.-ft. exhibition center in June 2007, to showcase Chinese-manufactured home furnishings to U.S. retailers. Representatives for the project, Grandland New York Expo, said it will employ up to 1,000 bilingual people at the East Elmhurst, Queens, location.

* Calyx & Corolla unveiled an exclusive collection of floral gifts and accessories designed by Susie Coelho, author of Secrets of a Style Diva and host of HGTV's "Outer Spaces" and "Surprise Gardener." The Susie Coelho Signature Fall and Holiday Collections catalogs, mailed to 2.7 million customers, feature fresh floral arrangements in unusual vases and cache pots and home decor gift ideas.

* Internet search engine Google Inc.’s Checkout service is offering merchants free processing of online payments until Dec. 31, to compete with eBay’s PayPal service, which is offering $100 million in rebates and free shipping this holiday season

* Like.com, a visual search engine that allows consumers to search for items by appearance, was launched by Riya, of San Mateo, Calif. Instead of entering text, users click on a photo and “Likeness Search” will retrieve other items found on the Web that display similar shape, color and texture characteristics. Like.com's initial release will focus on shopping categories, allowing users to search and purchase items from thousands of leading and boutique brands from retailers. "The first major new innovation to come to the world of image search in the last five years, Like.com truly allows consumers to window shop on the Web and see a great selection of products that match their tastes,” said company CEO and co-founder, Munjal Shah.

* Ennis Furniture Company is opening a 12,000-sq.-ft. Thomasville Furniture Gallery in Spokane Valley, Wash., in January. The location is a former Ethan Allen Home Interiors store.
