Trend Ahead: White, the trend of renewal
Home Accents Today Staff -- Home Accents Today, January 15, 2014
Intrinsically, this appears to be something each person understands, and the New Year marks a fitting time to start this process. Never, does it seem, is there a more appropriate time to examine from within. The product trends of the season reflect this collective consciousness in clean and uncluttered displays - a beautiful tabula rasa (clean slate).
In what is being called the most wearable fashion trend, white is everywhere. Long having been the color of those who meditate and look inward, white is perfect to adorn now. A reliable and reinvigorating pick-me-up, white calls to us in the cold winter and waits in our closet for the rebirth of the New Year. Valentino and Céline have wonderful white pieces that go perfectly with new perspectives and new desires.
Trendsetters, however, are rarely content to leave expression in the ambry. Perhaps this is why Palm Beach designer David Piscuskas is making news with his minimal, white kitchens. With little contrast, one is at ease in his kitchens. The design seems to encourage renewal from within, making it easy to make new, clean food choices as we transform and replenish.
White, the absence of color, seems to also be a trend for the New Year in furnishings and tabletop. While visiting the national chain Kartell on my recent visit to Florida, the purity of the white home décor on display makes it feel like a renewal of sorts, perfect for refreshing the home for a new start in a New Year.
