Atlanta winter market off to strong start

Americasmart reports increased on-site registration

The January 2014 Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market opened Tuesday with increased on-site buyer registrations, an all-new mobile app rollout and new and newly expanded showrooms signaling a strong run across the eight-day show, Americasmart said in a press release.

By close of business Tuesday, first-day actual on-site registrations exceeded all previous opening-day totals. The January 2014 first-day total tracks advance pre-registrations, which posted their highest gains in six years. Day one also saw more than 5,500 mobile app downloads, ahead of projections and in line with a new total that was expected to exceed 10,000 downloads by close of business Wednesday.

Traffic distribution across the 7.1 million-sq.-ft. campus was evidenced by high concentrations on home, gift, gourmet/housewares and home/rug floors. The home/rug activity previews the Atlanta International Area Rug Market, which opened Wednesday with the National Oriental Rug Show opening today.

Market first-day registrations included retailers and designers from every U.S. state, together with international registrations that by close of market will include buyers from more than 90 countries worldwide, according to the release.
