Orian Rugs plans $13 million expansion

Big 2014 continues for Anderson, S.C.-based manufacturer

Domestic rug manufacturer Orian Rugs has plans for a $13 million expansion to its facility in Anderson County, S.C.

The expansion, announced by the South Carolina Department of Commerce on Feb. 11, is expected to increase Orian's footprint from its current 550,000, state-of-the-art facility and add 125 jobs to its workforce of 500.

"Orian is excited to announce this additional investment in our Anderson, S.C. manufacturing facility," Wim De Pape, president of Orian, said in a statement. "We appreciate the commitment that the local and state governments have made to support manufacturing and encourage us to continue to grow here in South Carolina. Orian is very proud to be a leader in the North American rug business, driven by our dedicated workforce in Anderson, and we look forward to future opportunities here in Anderson County."

Since opening in 1979 as a family-owned rug company, Orian has since acquired Belgian manufacturers McThree Carpets and Bajong Carpets plus Sofiteks in Turkey. It is celebrating its 35th year in business this year and recently showed in Las Vegas for the first time to go along with showrooms in High Point, Atlanta, New York and Anderson.

"Orian was built from the ground up in South Carolina and continues to expand within our state," said S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley. "We are excited they are continuing to grow in South Carolina with a $13 million investment, creating 125 new jobs."
