Wayfair expanding Boston headquarters

The lease is with Simon Property Group for space at The Offices at Copley Place in Boston’s Back Bay.
Currently based in Boston on Huntington Avenue, Wayfair announced last year a 105,000-sq.-ft. lease and plans for a June 2014 move. It now requires additional space “following a year of rapid growth and expansion,” the company said in a release.
Last year, the retailer topped $1 billion in orders and did more than $900 million in delivered sales, compared with total sales of just under $600 million in 2012.
The new space is about three times the size of its existing headquarters and provides options for further expansion.
“With more than 1,600 employees, Wayfair is quickly becoming one of the largest employers in Boston,” CEO and co-founder Niraj Shah said. “We are proud of our Boston roots and believe our location in the Back Bay is optimal for attracting and retaining top talent.”
The mixed-use Copley Place at the Exit 22 interchange of the Mass Pike (Interstate 90) features 845,000 square feet of office space in four towers, “world-class shopping” and a planned 52-story residential tower with more than 500 units, the release said.
