Retail Store Operations Survey for 2014

Wall décor accounts for 17% of total sales

Wall décor, candles, lamps, accent tables, clocks and accent chairs are offered by two-thirds or more of home accent retailers, according to Home Accents Today's exclusive 2014 Retail Operations Survey.

Wall décor, including wall art and mirrors, accounts for 17% of total sales, while accent furniture, including accent tables and chairs, comprises 16% of all sales. The catch-all category of other decorative accessories owns a 19% share of sales.

Other data presented in the exclusive survey includes: average sales per square foot of selling space, close ratios, total number of hours store is open per week, percentage of sales by day, percentage of sales by month, number of employees, revenue sources, expense allocations, merchandise mix as a percentage of space and total sales, best-selling price points by product, number of lines carried by product, advertising methods, website information, social media, mobile technology and sourcing issues.

Home Accents Today's exclusive survey results, collected during April, are based on the responses of 100 home accent stores.

Responding retailers include home accent stores, full-line furniture stores, lamp and lighting specialists, rug specialists and designers. Eighty-seven percent of stores operate one location. Retail locations represent all regions of the country with 36% operating in the South, 24% in the Midwest, and 20% each in the Northeast and West.
