Building on the response to her home textiles accessories products, Peking Handicraft is launching designer Trina Turk’s bedding collection.
The collection of four beds reflects her approach to contemporary fabric design in her apparel collections, which are inspired by the multi-cultural mix, architecture and landscape of Los Angeles – and California in general. Turk’s style embraces contemporary design with color and prints with strong graphic effects.
“We see her as bringing to our company a younger, hipper aesthetic environment,” said Mark Grand, president of Peking. He noted that the decorative pillow and table linens collections introduced in 2009 were a marked departure from the firm’s overall style image.
The initial program includes distribution to department stores and more than 250 independent specialty stores.
The four beds are offered in three-piece duvet sets – a comforter and two shams – retailing from $180 to $300, and a mini-comforter set that includes a comforter, two shams and a bed skirt, said Carol Antone, Peking’s creative director. Each bed has invisible bar tacks on the interlining.
Super Paradise, is a 400-count cotton sateen with an embroidered top of bed motif as well as embroidered pillows. Wave is a white cotton sateen with wave embroidery framing the top and a panel print with the fleurette motif.
Blue Peacock and Trellis are fuller examples of the designer’s fabric design and color tendencies with bold color and patterns.
Turk has six namesake stores ranging from East Hampton and Bar Harbor, in the east to Palm Springs and Los Angeles in the west.
