Longtime manufacturers' representative Don McEvoy, owner of Don McEvoy Ltd., passed away on the morning of September 28, after a long battle with illness.
McEvoy began as a sales representative in 1964 with a showroom in the Dallas Trade Mart. His career spanned more than 45 years and more than 250 market and trade events, hundreds of new products and tens of thousands of retail customers. He was honored with the Academy of Achievement Award at the 21st annual ARTS Awards this past January.
McEvoy was able to make regular trips into his showroom up to a week ago. His son has joined the family business and serves as president of the company. Both of his children, John and Laura, were with him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen.
Services will be held on October 8 at Highland Park United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m., with a reception immediately following in the Great Hall.
The industry has truly lost a visionary in style, taste & talent! Donald has always been a mentor and idol for me...with my growing up in the gift industry and now into my life in the design/residential side of our industry. I wish the family and the whole McEvoy organization my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace Don and keep decorating. We know you are still all watching us.Kenneth Ludwig - 2010-09-30 14:47:51 EDT
Don was a truly genuine, creative force in the gift industry. He encouraged me early in my career and it was a pleasure to work with him.
