RICHMOND, Va. -- Contemporary home furnishings retailer LaDifférence is expanding its presence from downtown Richmond to a second, smaller location in Short Pump. The new 7,000-sq.-ft. store is located in West Broad Village at 2436 Old Brick Road. The retailer told Furniture/Today its new location will offer an ample but sharply focused mix of modern furniture and accessories designed to allow customers to quickly compare styles, quality and prices to traditional big box furnishings stores nearby. While LaDiff's 3-story flagship store in Richmond's historic River District showcases 50,000 square feet of the company's contemporary pieces, the Short Pump location will display the retailer's tried and true bestsellers, the best LaDealL$, and what co-owner Sarah Paxton calls "show-stoppers" from around the world. Store manager is Matthew King. "We're forecasting this location to contribute to a substantial portion of our company's overall sales," co-owner Andy Thornton told Furniture/Today. "And while we want our customers to have a shopping option closer to their homes, we also hope this location will encourage folks to come downtown and visit our flagship store."
POTOMAC, Md. -- Showhomes home staging announced the grand opening of its newest location, Showhomes Potomac, serving the communities of Potomac and neighboring Bethesda-Chevy Chase in Montgomery County, Md. Showhomes home staging is a franchise system with 75 offices in 25 states, serving several prominent upscale communities including nearby McLean, Va. The company was founded in 1986.
LACROSSE, Wisc. -- Susie and Todd Myers opened Juniper's Home Decor and Gifts at 205 W. Blackhawk Ave. in downtown Prairie du Chien. The store stocks home décor, wall art, table and dishware, rugs, soft goods and gifts.
WARREN, Mich. - Art Van Furniture opened three new stores, including its first mall store with a new format. The 44,000-sq.-ft. mall store at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills, Mich., features a "lifestyle center court," showcasing four styles of living - contemporary, casual, traditional and rustic. The store also has a new prototype clearance center design and vertical displays spotlighting best values and fashion. Art Van also opened stores in Petoskey and Onaway, in northern Michigan. "We're excited to be growing in northern Michigan," Art Van founder and Chairman Art Van Elslander said. "We're not just opening a new location; we want to become part of the neighborhood. It's what we've done in Michigan communities for more than 50 years, creating local jobs, hiring local contractors and giving back whenever we can."
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- City Furniture opened a new 94,000-sq.-ft. LEED-registered store at 3350 Airport Road. Designed by architectural firm Garcia Stromberg, the building features rooftop solar tubes for daylight harvesting and LED lighting inside and out. The structure is expected to use 42% less water for interior use and 78% less outside than a traditional store. Walls at the store are panelled with reclaimed wood. The new store features tubes lined with mirrors that direct concentrated sunlight into the traffic corridors of the showroom. City Furniture is planning to repurpose, sell or lease the existing, smaller City Furniture showrooms in Boca Raton, Lantana and Pompano Beach.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Grid Furnishings, Inside and Adore House recently opened in the Short North district, joining about a dozen existing home furnishings stores already located there.
DENVER, Colo. -- Colorado Style Home Furnishings reopened in a new location, tripling the size of its former space. The new showroom offers more than 60,000 square feet of furniture and accessories. The new store is in the same shopping center as the original location, at C-470 and University Boulevard in Highlands Ranch.
SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla. -- Norris Home Furnishings opened a 1,600-sq.-ft. showroom at 1025 Periwinkle Way. Owner Larry Norris opened his first store in Fort Myers in 1983 and expanded the business to three locations in Fort Myers and Naples before selling the business in 1998. WILMINGTON, Del. - Kurtz Collection opened in December on North Union Street. Erika Kurtz is CEO of the business, which opened a few blocks from New Moon Rugs, a store first opened by her father, John Kurtz, in 1985. Kurtz Collection features traditional and antique rugs as well as furniture and decorative accessories.
