Scott Brothers talk furniture, future launches

Scott BrosDrew and Jonathan Scott, better known as The Property Brothers, have a licensed furniture collection with Coaster.
In recent years, identical twin brothers Jonathan and Drew Scott have taken the home design category by storm. Stars of HGTV’s “The Property Brothers” and “Brother vs. Brother,” Drew is a real estate expert while Jonathan is a licensed contractor. Their personalities and playful sibling rivalry have created a following on TV and throughout social media while their home-based perspectives helped when they launched Scott Living with Coaster earlier in the year.

The brothers, who visited Coaster’s C-1612 showroom Sunday, spoke with Home Accents Today about their licensed Scott Living line through Coaster, having a home-based perspective, what’s next, and more.

HAT: What led you to want to develop your own home décor products?

Drew Scott: Scott Living is a natural extension of what we do and our fans had been asking for a furniture and decor collection from us for many years.

HAT: What led to the partnership with Coaster?

Jonathan Scott: Coaster really understands our vision and has worked tirelessly from our sketches and inspirations to create amazing pieces. We’ve translated these looks into pieces that our fans will be proud to add to their homes.

HAT: Since its launch, how has the Scott Home line from Coaster been received by buyers and designers?

Jonathan Scott: There has been an overwhelming positive response from buyers, consumers and the designer industry as a whole. We love that our Scott Living collections are seen as fresh thinking and outside-the-box designs.

HAT: Why was it important for you to develop both indoor and outdoor furniture as part of this rollout?

Drew Scott: We launched Scott Living with an outdoor program first as we wanted to show homeowners a way to expand their indoor comfort and style to the outside. Following this, we expanded the line to include bath vanities, bedding, fabric-by-the-yard, and most recently indoor furniture and accessories, to include virtually all aspects of the home space.

Jonathan Scott: It's also important to us to ensure we have the right manufacturing partners that can help bring our designs to fruition and grow our brand to serve a growing range of design needs.

HAT: When do you expect the products to hit stores? Has there been much of a consumer buzz as the date nears?

Drew Scott: We have been steadily releasing new collections over the past few years, which has helped Scott Living become a household name across North America. This year our new bedroom, living, home office and dining collections have taken the design community by storm and we can't wait to showcase our ideas for the coming year.

HAT: How does having a home-based perspective help when developing home products?

Jonathan Scott: It helps tremendously. We’ve designed most of our pieces to be interchangeable with other collections so that it makes it easier for our consumer to blend Scott Living products seamlessly into their home, regardless of the palate or overall style. This saves money and headaches for our customer who is always searching for balance between aesthetics and functionality.

HAT: What’s next for the Scott Living by Drew & Jonathan Scott brand? Do you expect to add more categories?

Drew Scott: We will definitely launch more collections in a variety of categories to continue the growth of the Scott Living program. Look for designs inspired by our travels, continued innovation in smart technology and green initiatives for the home.
