Accessories And The Luxury Home Furnishings Retailer

VignettesVignettes help high-end retailer Robb & Stucky tell a more complete product story to its consumers.
While high-end furniture often speaks for itself in terms of style and quality, high-end accessories help those pieces tell a complete, luxurious story.

High-end home furnishings retailer Robb & Stucky gets that and makes sure it incorporates accessories throughout its four Florida stores as a way to better convey that sense of luxury to its customers — and as a way to create additional business, as in larger tickets and more frequent return visits.

“Accessories and accent furniture are what truly define rooms, giving them a distinct personality and style, and making them memorable and unique,” Mark Stuart, creative director for Robb & Stucky told Home Accents Today. “That is why Robb & Stucky continuously expands its selection of one-of-a-kind items that are available right off of our showroom floors for our designers to have at their disposal. Design clients love knowing that they have unique accessories and accents that no one else has.”

Stuart said lamps and lighting, large-scale artwork, mirrors, rugs and a wide variety of decorative accessories and accents, including one-of-a-kind items, have traditionally been most successful for Robb & Stucky.

Additionally, Stuart said placement matters when figuring out how to best leverage accents and accessories in the showroom.

“We position accessories and accents in the same way that we merchandise our showrooms at Robb & Stucky: by lifestyle,” Stuart said. “The ebb and flow of accessories and accents is quite different from furniture, as these items are all available for purchase off the showroom floor. Therefore, we must ensure at all times that we have enough accessories and accents available for designers and clients to purchase while still maintaining our high showroom standards.”

Stuart likened getting accessories right to a balancing act and said it requires a lot of planning and a really great visual staff that can react immediately to process large shipments of accessories and accents entering or leaving showrooms.

“I tend to buy large quantities and multiples so we boutique areas when necessary and then spread items out once things sell down,” Stuart said.

Plus, Stuart credited the hard work and attention to detail paid by Robb & Stucky’s design staff, which he said keeps a “close pulse on the latest trends in home fashion and design.”

Robb accessories
Robb & Stucky Creative Director Mark Stuart says accessories and accent furniture define rooms, and the luxury retailer makes it a point to accentuate those items accordingly.

“Just as important, we ensure that the selections at each of our showrooms statewide reflect the local style preferences and meet the unique needs of their clients and designers,” Stuart said.

While Robb & Stucky deals in higher-end goods, its add-on game is one that any retailer can follow to increase sales, generate interest and create greater cachet in their community.

“Properly placed high-end accessories can elevate even high-end furniture settings to the next level,” Stuart said. “Robb & Stucky’s selection of accessories and accents sets us apart from everyone else, particularly for luxury consumers. Our unique and one-of-a-kind items make our showrooms highly attractive destinations for luxury consumers and designers who desire and expect to find those special items.”
