Feizy Rugs featured in Academy Awards' Greenroom

Backstage lounge at Oscars inspired by 1930s, 40s Hollywood

DALLAS — Two one-of-a-kind Beni Ourain Moroccan-style shag rugs from Feizy Rugs will be featured in the Greenroom at the 84th Annual Academy Awards, held Feb. 26.

Feizy Rugs, 84th Academy Awards, OscarsThis artist’s rendering from Architectural Digest depicts the Greenroom at this year’s Academy Awards, featuring two Feizy Rugs shags.

"We're honored to be a part of such an iconic event," said John Feizy, founder and CEO, Feizy Rugs. "It's hard to believe that in the space of just under 40 years, our company has gone from a local designer resource to an international supplier of the finest, most desired rugs in the world."

Designed by Waldo Fernandez and produced by Architectural Digest, the Greenroom is the exclusive backstage lounge for Oscar presenters and honorees. This year's Greenroom is inspired by Hollywood of the 1930s and 40s.

"I referenced in my design the director George Cukor's house who was a good friend of Elizabeth Taylor," Fernandez said. "He would have parties in his house every weekend and have the most glamorous people in his home. His interiors were done by Billy Haines and he kept his house the same until the end of his life, which I also feel is very special. I love the layers in his home and how his accessories, carpets and art helped finished the room and all his interior spaces. These are the elements that truly make a room distinct."

Fernandez, an interior designer known for the same sort of relaxed styling and unique patterns found in the two Feizy shags, is no stranger to the glitz and glam of Hollywood.

Early in his career, Fernandez worked as an assistant set designer for Walter Scott at 20th Century Fox. He opened his first showroom in 1974, and now manages his firm Waldo's Designs, which creates "elegantly relaxed" residential interiors. Fernandez also works on commercial projects and designs furniture, rugs and baskets.

This is the tenth consecutive year that Architectural Digest will produce the Greenroom at the Academy Awards. The shelter magazine will feature photos and video of this year's Greenroom on its website on Monday, Feb. 27.
