HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. -- VIETRI Inc., the largest U.S. importer of fine Italian handcrafted dinnerware, flatware, glassware, linens, garden and decorative accessories, announced that its January 2012 Catalog was named a Silver Award Winner for Sappi Printers of the Year.
Sappi is a global company and leading producer of coated fine paper. The Sappi Printers of the Year awards recognize achievements of excellence in printed communications.
A panel of judges from recognized print institutions and trade professions were selected to define the highest standards for print quality. Each contender was judged on the overall impact of the printed piece, degree of difficulty and technical excellence.
This year's judges included Lauren Elliot, the principal of Wicked Good Print Production; Bill Garno, the director of Rochester Institute of Technology's Printing Applications Laboratory; Malcolm Keif, a professor in the Graphic Communication Department at Cal Poly; and Ken Lantz, the VP, director of operations for LM&P in New York and Chicago.
Each year, the VIETRI Marketing Department publishes a major catalog in January to introduce new collections as well as represent its full product line with images, product descriptions, artisan photos and stories of inspiration. VIETRI distributes the catalog among the company's retailers and sales representatives.
In 2012, VIETRI debuted a total re-design of the catalog, including new photography and a new partnership with Hutchison Allgood, a Winston-Salem, N.C.-based printing company.
Among more than 2,100 entries submitted, the VIETRI catalog was one of 57 to be named a Silver Award Winner. The catalog can be viewed by consumers online at www.vietri.com or at any VIETRI retailer.
"We are thrilled to be acknowledged for the Silver Sappi Printers of the Year Award among some of the most influential and important brands in the industry, such as Harry Winston, Tiffany & Co. and Bergdorf Goodman," said Susan Gravely, VIETRI founder and CEO. "Our presence among these brands in this competition is both an honor and a privilege. This year's collaboration with Hutchison Allgood was undoubtedly a successful one and we are so grateful for their partnership. We look forward to a bright future ahead in our work together."
Gravely, with her sister Frances and mother Lee, founded VIETRI in 1983 after a family trip to Italy where they fell in love with colorful hand-painted dinnerware on the Amalfi Coast. VIETRI has grown from a small company representing one Italian factory to serving a customer base of more than 2,000 top specialty stores in all 50 states, plus Canada, England, Mexico, Europe, South America, Asia and Australia.
