Safavieh unveils 150 new designs at New York markets

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. -- Safavieh introduces more than 150 designs at the New York Home Fashions Market and Metro Rug Market, which start today in the greater New York City area and run through Sept. 13.

The rug, soft good and furniture company presents 10 new rug collections and 50 new decorative pillows in its Manhattan showroom at 153 Madison Avenue. Also, Safavieh serves breakfast and lunch for buyers daily during the markets in its showroom.

Among the company's rug introductions are four ranges of hand-knotted Tibetan weaves woven in India in abstract patterns and tribal motifs updated with neutral and pale pastel color schemes. The 600 Series Tibetans group is comprised of 15 designs with cut and loop pile and a diverse range of dimensional patterns. Rugs in this Series are made of silk and cashmere, and retail for $2,887 in the 5x8 size.

The 650 Series Tibetans are hand-knotted of linen pile and retail for $2,376 in the 6x9 size. This range launches with 12 designs, including a geometric grid and Moorish quatrefoil.

Two additional collections, the 800 and 900 Series Tibetans, each features 15 patterns woven of wool and banana silk. Designs include water color ikat and nomadic motifs abstracted into contemporary graphics with tonal hints of color. Retail for 800 and 900 Series Tibetans is $2160 for the 6x9 size.

The company expands its flat-weave rug offerings with eight new additions to the Safavieh Sumak Collection, 12 new dhurries, a collection of eight flatweave stripes and two Navajo designs. Four flatweave kilim plaids will also debut at New York rug markets.

Safavieh expands its Porcello Collection with 12 new designs inspired by fine European and Oriental rugs. These machine-made rugs are constructed in Belgium of enhanced polypropylene. Retail for a 5x8 is $239.

The company also added 12 new patterns in black and white and black and natural sisal colorways to Courtyard, its machine-loomed indoor/outdoor rug collection. A 5x8 Courtyard retails for $179.

According to Cyrus Yaraghi, Safavieh principal, the company will also introduce a 3-D Shag Collection with pile heights in three dimensions. The sculpted shags are machine-made in China in eight colors and retail for $320 in the 5x8 size.
