Discoveries Furniture & Finds announced plans to open a fourth store, in New Orleans' Uptown area, in May, 2013.
Co-owned by husband and wife Scott and Cat McKearn, the store is filled with an electic mix of items selected by the McKearns during their travels to India, Indonesia, China and Morocco. The couple are also developing their own hand-crafted solid wood furniture and accessories.
"By shipping 40-foot containers worth of furniture and accessories directly from the artisan to our stores, we're able to offer true wholesale prices to our customers", Scott McKearn said.
A 5,000-sq.-ft. warehouse on Magazine St. will undergo extensive renovations in advance of the grand opening of the store, the company's second location in New Orleans.
McKearn described the building as "a raw industrial space with great bones."
"It is going to be amazing; the front will be all glass and will be completely open when weather permits. A modern industrial design theme that we are creating with architect Richard Albert will knock your socks off. There is not a better location in Louisiana for what we do," he said.
McKearn, a veteran direct import wholesaler, retailer and co-founder of Dauphine Mirror Company, Flambeau Lighting and Habitat Imports, opened the first Discoveries in downtown Hammond, La. with his wife Cat six years ago. A year later they opened a 10,000-sq.-ft. location in New Orleans, on North Rampart St. They added a 7,000-sq.-ft. location on Highland Rd. in Baton Rouge a year and a half ago.
McKearn said the company is considering opening similar stores in Jackson, Miss., Birmingham, Ala., Houston, Texas and Nashville, Tenn., over the next two years.
