Exhibits, events, special programming and trends presentations are taking place across 27 exhibition halls, and the venue was "fully booked" as of opening day according to Detlef Braun, Messe Frankfurt executive board member.

The four trends for Ambiente 2013 are: Blossom Field, Classic Ground, Eccentric Domain and Contrasting Sphere.

This year, Ambiente is welcoming France as "partner country," showcasing exhibitors and programming in lifestyle, creativity and design under the motto ‘La France un art de vivre.' The partner country presentation within the framework of the 50th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty has been made possible by a strategic cooperation between Messe Frankfurt and UBIFRANCE, the French office for international business development.

Dr. Philipp Rösler, Germany's federal minister of economics and technology, and Sylvia Pinel, France's minister for crafts, trade and tourism, officially opened the fair.

"France is a close and strong friend of Germany's in Europe and an ideal partner for Ambiente, the world's biggest trade fair for consumer goods," Rosler said. "French consumer goods are distinguished by top quality... And we in Germany appreciate this. Many German companies successfully supply the French market with top-quality consumer goods. The consumer-goods industry is an important cornerstone for the economic success of our two countries and Ambiente represents an ideal platform for this."
