Furnitureland South to open 'revolutionary' design center
Will feature new technology, high-end guest services, video programming

JAMESTOWN, NC - Furnitureland South will cut the ribbon on a new 17,000-sq.-ft. design center next week. Located on the third floor of the main showroom building, the center will feature "sophisticated new high-tech tools and unique high end-styled, spa-inspired services," according to the company.
Described by Executive Vice President Jason Harris as the nucleus of the retailer's business, the re-engineered design center is where customers will select and customize furniture products, determine room layouts, and coordinate their furnishings purchases.
"There's nothing in the world like it," Harris said. "We believe it's a revolutionary concept that will improve the process of turning customer dreams into beautiful home interiors. We're using technology and other enhancements to bring an entirely new level of service to our clients. Even details such as lighting and wall colors in the design center were selected to ensure the best design experience possible.
"We've created an Apple technology platform to ease information gathering for our clients and staff, and which will additionally support our manufacturer-partners who are moving toward digitizing their catalogs or creating apps for viewing their products."
The center will incorporate new electronic hardware including interactive televisions positioned at eye level in a number of collaborative workplaces. The TVs will display images and videos of interior design applications and provide instant Internet access for viewing manufacturer websites and other online resources. A variety of workspaces will include large tables, counter-height peninsula desks, casual conversation areas, and four private workrooms.
The retailer plans to post a behind-the-scenes "Designing the Design Center" video on its website, providing visitors with an insider's look at the new space.
Harris said he also plans to launch a new online video series, "Design Center," which will "offer a glimpse into the process of real people making real decisions for decorating and designing their homes." Viewers will have the option to click-thru to links for products they like, which directs them to the Furnitureland South website. "This will be the only online show that features built-in product integration where viewers can take the logical next step seamlessly," Harris said. "We're excited to be first in our industry to utilize video and broadband's interactive capacity to facilitate sales."
Harris will speak at the ribbon-cutting event, scheduled for Friday, Aug. 23 at 2 p.m.
