Furniture Classics announced that it has partnered with Wind Farm Interiors of Mobile, Ala., in an effort to assist a military veteran who was wounded in action during a 2010 tour in Afghanistan.
Cpl. Christopher Montgomery of the United States Marine Corps suffered the loss of both legs and the use of his left arm when an IED detonated while he was on patrol. Once stabilized, Montgomery was flown to Germany, where he was placed in a medically induced coma while his wounds were treated. Afterward, he was flown back to the United States for a long road of recovery and rehabilitation.
This past year, Homes for Our Troops and scores of volunteers helped build Montgomery a home in West Mobile, Ala., that is suitable for his needs. The home was recently completed and dedicated, but Montgomery still needed help - except for a mattress/box springs set on a Hollywood frame and a flat-screen TV, he had no furniture.
Sue Ellen Gallaspy of Wind Farm Interiors decided to campaign on Montgomery's behalf to help furnish his new home. Upon hearing about this effort, Furniture Classics sales representative Steve Cathell reached out to his fellow sales representatives along with the entire Furniture Classics staff to join in assisting Montgomery.
On Montgomery's behalf, Furniture Classics donated a $4,000 dining room table and set of chairs for his new home. Additionally, the company matched each dollar donated by its staff and sales force and presented Montgomery with a check for more than $3,000 to further help him make his new house a home.
"Freedom is not free and this young man has paid a significant price for the freedoms we enjoy," said Doug Ricks, former USMC and owner of Furniture Classics. "It is an honor to stand along with this brave hero and assist in his time of need."
