Surya is introducing a line of novelty rugs from Belgian-based design firm Papilio at the Oct. 19-24 High Point Market.
The rug collections combine a unique design aesthetic with recycled materials and unexpected construction techniques to offer fashionable, eye-catching rugs that are comfortable and stylish. They will be on display in Surya's Showplace 4100 showroom.
"We are excited to partner with Papilio to bring to the U.S. market these stylish and trendsetting European rugs that not only convey a unique design aesthetic but also reflect concern for our environment and sustainability," said Satya Tiwari, president of Calhoun, Ga.-based Surya. "Papilio's inspired, forward-thinking approach to design is a natural match for Surya, and we look forward to offering these trend setting collections to our customers."
Papilio believes it is important to give used and discarded materials a second life. The company's rug designs incorporate exotic fibers such as bamboo, banana and camel wool, along with less common materials like newspaper, used cardboard and Indian saris to provide a range of eco-conscious options. The rugs are grouped into lifestyle collections, each of which contains several price points - making the collections accessible to a variety of consumers and exemplifying Papilio's philosophy that "design doesn't have to be expensive."
"Based on the depth of the Surya line, and the level of service the company provides to its expansive customer base, we believe that Surya will be a strong advocate for the marketing of our products within the U.S. while remaining true to the Papilio brand," said Christophe Vervaeke, vice president of product development, R&D, Papilio. "Like Papilio, Surya is an innovator and is committed to offering its customers products across a range of lifestyles and price points to ensure that they always have access to the latest trends and designs."
Papilio is the recipient of a number of international design awards for its recycled rugs, including the Red Dot Design award and Henry Van de Velde Design award.
