Amer Rugs looks to make splash

In years past, Amer Rugs showed some of its wares in temporary spaces in High Point.
This fall, however, the Norcross, Ga.-based rug manufacturer and three time winner of the America's MagnificentCarpet Award moved into a permanent space at Showplace 3415.
"We had tried temporary showrooms here earlier but we thought it would be a better market for us if we did a permanent showroom," said Monika Gupta, chief operating officer. "Since it is our first show, we do not have high expectations; we're expecting to add some new accounts and some more exposure to our company."
In addition to High Point, Amer has shown in New York and has a permanent showroom in Atlanta and recently doubled its warehouse space in Georgia.
Gupta said while the company is primarily known for high-end, hand-knotted rugs, it is making its first foray into lower price points this market, and many of its new introductions here are geared in that direction.
"Since we are a high-end company, we don't come out with a lot of new collections on the high end. We're trying to get our hands into the low end product where we can catch mass stores" she said. "We are very new to these kinds of products but still having a strong background in production and high-end knotted goods, we have strong design and colorways. We're trying to give that kind of taste to customers who don't have much money but they do have taste."
