Four designers launch private label, license products

Staff -- Home Accents Today, 1/1/2005

Design and Sourcing International will launch an innovative consortium to bridge the gap between creative product development and the marketplace during the Lighting and Accessories Market in Dallas.

Four accomplished designers, at the forefront of the high-end couture lighting/home accent industry, have teamed with DSI to create four distinct lines to be manufactured for the mass market. During the Dallas lighting market, the designers will be in the DSI showroom to debut their products and discuss their availability for private label and licensing programs. In addition to this new venture, the four artists will continue their own businesses.

Dez Ryan is well known for her bold silhouettes and unusual combinations of pattern and color in lighting. Her signature couture creations are a spirited offspring of art and design.

Tracy Glover studied glass at the Rhode Island School of Design. In her Rhode Island studio, Glover focuses on elegant lamp designs, inspired by historical Italian glass. Her designs are displayed in the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.

Susan Goldstick pioneered the road to exciting decorative hardware when she transformed her jewelry designs into cabinet pulls in 1992. Since then, window accessories, painted furniture and most recently decorative lighting have joined the array of unique creations from her studio in Sausalito, Calif.

Mollie Woods, an artist and interior designer based in Vermont, creates candlesticks, lamps and home accessories that are both beautiful and eccentric.

The trademarks of her company, Harlequin Design, are a blend of offbeat color, hand-painted surface designs and elegant embellishments.

Julie Ann Snider is owner of Design and Sourcing International, a Dallas-based company specializing in lighting and home accent product design and development offshore. DSI manages the development, sales support, production and logistics for its designers and customers. Snider created the consortium to pool the talents of designers and allow them to develop products outside their own high-end lines.

"They are just so talented and have so many ideas," Snider said. "The designers are going to be in control of their own line, the look of the product and the marketing."

The DSI showroom located in the World Trade Center, Space 10061 at the Dallas Market Center, will display the lines developed by each artist represented, and is accessible during major markets and by appointment.
