Lifestyle, Art Deco on the rise

Staff -- Home Accents Today, 4/1/2005

From the editors of Furniture/Today

True contemporary looks, new takes on lifestyle collections and a healthy dose of Art Deco are toning down the brown this spring at mainstream furniture showrooms. Traditional offerings continue to favor clean, architectural lines over super-abundant carving, and many lines get a welcome shot of color.

Changing Lifestyles

Best Home Furnishings' new chair-and-a-half boasts smooth, wide bent arms in Espresso or medium maple finishes.

Crisp Contemporary

Stanley Collections takes inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater designs in this Midnight Sun occasional piece.

Echo of Deco

Leda Furniture's Signature collection in ebony and burl veneers on maple solids includes this buffet. Other materials of interest include crocodile-textured leather on accent pieces such as mirrors.

Casual Classics

Bernhardt is expanding its traditional offerings to include this dressed-up number with carved legs.

Trading Traditions

A hand-painted French blue-gray and antiqued white finish enrich the latest Pulaski Antiques Road Show group, the Chateau Marie bedroom. The bed here was inspired by an original railing.

Neo-Neoclassical

The Regent collection from Century dresses down and contemporizes Neoclassical and Biedermeier forms through European birch construction and chamfered edges, with some yew applications, as well as a black accent finish.
