Luxe glamour, color major trends at textile show

Sexy glamour with touches of old-time Hollywood influences mixed with more luxurious looks in both fabric and fabrications at the New York Home Textiles Market last month.
As part of this fashion movement, velvet reappeared as a fashion-forward fabric in bed ensembles, as decorative pillows and as trims for window coverings and table linens. Silks were favorites with both weaves and prints showing a new sophistication, subtle sheen and a lively color palette.
As part of the glamour influence, satin and satin effects were seen in fabrics for all home textiles products as well as finishes for bath accessories.
Color, once again, was a major story — the more the better and embracing the entire spectrum. Even classic designs like damasks, grillwork and Jacobeans acquired a fresh look with more potent colorings.
Ethniticity was a major fashion factor — and globally interpreted — with influences from Africa, Asia, South America the most significant directions. But global features are becoming subtle, often blending one into another.
Significant within the global or ethnic influence was a fresh interpretation of craft looks. Stitchery including crochet work, macrame and embroidery, was offered in updated versions of the original crafts.
Contemporary assumed a variety of poses — mid-century, retro, pop, crisp and sleek and just fun-loving. The color story played a major role in interpreting the mood with saturated colors, brights and contrasts the big stories.
