After more than 25 years as vice president, design director and part owner of Frederick Cooper and Tyndale Lamps, Suzanne Lauren will open a design and consulting studio in Chicago in October.

Frederick Cooper and Tyndale Lamps recently were sold to outside investors, who moved it to smaller Chicago facilities.

In a few months, Lauren plans to follow her newly incorporated studio, Suzanne Lauren Ltd., with a retail emporium, called X Y Zanne, A BoBo Boutique. X Y Zanne will specialize in fabrics and will offer sensuous silks and luscious trims, textured leathers and handmade embroideries transformed into handbags, computer bags, pet paraphernalia, pillows, bed linens and jewelry.

"We will offer a full range of products created and frequently made by us," Lauren said. "Additionally, we will have a full range of 'made to order products' which will use a potpourri of mixed media from around the world."

Lauren said she inherited her love of fabrics and ability to drape a piece of fabric from her mother, renowned lingerie designer Ruth Flaum. Previously focused on lamps, shades and other lighting products, Lauren now will share her love of fibers and fabrics, gems and jewels, people and pets.

In addition to offering a variety of products, the emporium will feature weekly crafts projects for kids in Diana's Den, as well as functions to feature local artisans.
