Award-winning musician Lenny Kravitz has launched his design firm, Kravitz Design. Known for his retro taste in everything from his personal clothing style to his music, Kravitz and his two partners will showcase their design work through the firm they started two years ago.
Kravitz Design was low-key at first and did private homes but now the firm will focus on commercial (including hotels), residential and product design.
Kravitz said his love of architecture and interior design was evident at an early age, but it was his opulent decor of his own homes, including one in New Orleans that started getting notice in magazines such as Vogue, Interior Design, Metropolis, Harpers Bazaar and The New York Times Magazine. He describes his look as being rooted in classic styles with a blend of furniture, such as an art nouveau chair next to a chair from the '60s. He also expects to launch a line of Kravitz decor.
"Architecture and design have always been great passions for me, and to now have the opportunity to create new spaces for others is very exciting," Kravitz said.
Recently, Kravitz Design was selected by Swarovski, along with Tom Dixon, Karim Rashid and Andréa Putman as part of Swarovski's fourth Crystal Palace Collection. Kravitz Design created Casino Royale, a chandelier featuring blackened chrome shades with satin bronze linings surrounding amber, jet and clear crystal strands.
Kravitz Design also is creating a luxury-recording studio for the Setai Resort and Residences in Miami Beach, Fla.
