Pearly Whites
Ceramic artist Frances Palmer launches her first wholesale collection at the New York International Gift Fair this month. Creating couture pottery in her studio for the past 17 years, the Columbia University-trained art historian defined her look with eccentric, slightly offbeat flair. The Frances Palmer Pearl Collection debuts in pure creamy white, featuring traditional contours that are deliberately disrupted by swerving fluted markings, asymmetrical scalloped edges and non-uniform pearl borders. Each of the pieces retains the whimsical irregularity of Palmer's custom work — the designs are pressed from hand-thrown prototypes and finished by hand. Retail prices range from $30 for a teacup to $225 for a platter. eLink 676
LEDing the Way
Leonardo's new LED family of lamps boasts not only technological advancement, but also innovation in design. The seven lamps offer enhanced brightness and remote control-operated mood control, as well as stylish details like cut opal glass. With a touch of a button, the lamp can flip through four different moods (or freeze on a favorite color): Relax, soothing shades of blue; Fresh, invigorating, revitalizing yellow and green; Energy, passionate, intensive reds; and All Moods, all colors of the rainbow. The UFO-shaped Hynotise LED features a double LED ring for color contrast, while the CandLED combines natural and cold light in meaningful fashion. The Vase LED showcases light that travels from the base to the edge of the vase, lending an otherworldly quality to floral arrangements. eLink 674
Life Style
Normann Copenhagen touts design and lifestyle products for everyone at its new store, which opened at the close of 2005. In addition to contemporary home accents like furniture and lighting, the Copenhagen-based boutique stocks music, fashion, perfume and even hand-held vacuum cleaners (only the most stylish, of course) to reinforce the concept that design does not need to be intimidating. Included in the uber-hip mix are names like Kartell, Mooi, Alessi, Levis, Missoni, Puma, Adidas, Ijin and Edra. "We want to introduce our customers to products that are unique either due to the way they have been produced or due to the materials they have been made of," said partner Jan Andersen. "Design and lifestyle products can be abstract and avant garde but also simple and tangible. This is what we want to tell our visitors." Organic Matters
While roots are the primary motif showcased in the new Roots Collection by Agnes & Hoss, designer Stephanie Waddell's first collection from Lakeshore Studios also represents her "root beginnings" in lighting (hence the name). The textile designer, who sells purses, scarves and now pillows under the Agnes & Hoss label, was persuaded to try her hand at lighting after Lakeshore discovered her fabric designs and "just grabbed her," according to Kirstin Geldhof. "She is incredibly talented." The organically inspired prints transition Waddell's distinctive fashion sense to the home with ease. "The designs are clean yet complex, bold and bright without overpowering," said Geldhof. "The forms are relatable and integratable." The collection, which debuted at the October International Home Furnishings Market includes table lamp, floor lamp and chandelier in 10 eye-popping fabrics. Retail prices range from $450 to $815. eLink 673

Magic Carpet Ride
Inspired by the mystical allure of childhood fairy tales, Loophouse creative director and founder Lorraine Stratham created the hand-tufted Enchanted Garden rug collection. "There was a feeling of wonder mixed with memories of vivid color that I wanted to rekindle," Stratham said. "I was also struck by how many of these tales were set in secret or enchanted gardens. Proof that nature truly is magical, and that's the essence of the collection. Contemporary yet ornate." The lush, lavish designs render fanciful themes such as Anahita (overlapping wings), Nixie (dancing water sprites) and Suiren (floating water lilies) modern and livable yet fantasy-full. Prices range from $125 to $135. eLink 675
