Austin-based Four Hands recently was honored by Texas Governor Rick Perry as one of the 50 best companies to work for in the state. This was the first statewide competition of its kind to recognize companies rated internally and externally as the best place to work.
At a lunch hosted by the Texas Association of Business, the publishers of Texas Monthly and the Society for Human Resource Management - Texas State Council, more than 400 business leaders were on hand to honor the winners.
Managed by Best Companies Group, the program is a multi-year initiative (similar to Fortune magazine's list) to motivate companies in Texas to focus, measure and move their workplace environments towards excellence. Numerous studies show a strong correlation between profitability and creating a good place to work.
Companies were selected based on an assessment of their employee policies and procedures and the results of an internal employee survey. The Assessment Findings Report that all participating companies receive will enable them to develop plans and implement steps necessary to create a great workplace and continue to improve the performance of their business.
Four Hands, ranked #48 on the list, is featured along with the other companies in the February edition of Texas Monthly.
"Creating an environment in which I can provide our employees with a place to grow and expand their thinking, all while having fun has been a key to the success and rapid growth of our global operation," said Brett Hatton, president and CEO of Four Hands.
Ten years ago, Hatton decided to base the global furniture company in Austin because he loved the city's creative energy. He believes that the innovative, fashion-forward personality of Four Hands fits well with the artistic, unique atmosphere of the city. Four Hands also has been honored for several years running as one of the fastest growing private companies in the country.
