National Geographic Home expands

Cinde W. Ingram -- Home Accents Today, 5/1/2006

National Geographic Home added two French-inspired lines to its growing roster of home furnishings at the April furniture market in High Point, N.C.

Licensing partners collaborating on the new Provence and Cote d'Azur collections include Palecek, Toyo, New Growth Designs, iPhotoart, Lane, Sphinx by Oriental Weavers and Lava Enterprises Ltd. The introduction includes hundreds of items across key categories including area rugs, botanicals, candles, home accents and furniture.

"Reflections of southeastern France's timeless beauty are depicted in the Society's extensive content and resources," said Krista Newberry, National Geographic's vice president of licensing, soft lines. "Through National Geographic's vast archives and an expedition trip to this region, our partners were able to design furnishings that reflect the lifestyle of the region, its history and rich culture."

In the 18th century-inspired National Geographic Provence Collection, pin-dot cherry woods and basket-weave tabletops pay tribute to the region's organic energy while cabriole legs and ironwood accents complement clean lines. Rustic paint finishes evoke the region's energizing blues and cool greens.

The National Geographic Cote d'Azur Collection is reminiscent of the 19th century Louis-Philippe furniture style. Classic and symmetrical pieces blend with bright floral and deep rust-red fabrics to capture the understated luxury and sophistication of the French Riviera. Swirl mahogany woods are balanced by soothing neutrals, marble accents and a focus on comfort as well as design. The collection's fluid lines, softened corners, vibrant colors and subtle moldings represent one of the most popular looks in home design.

Net proceeds from the National Geographic Home Collection are dedicated to the Society's World Cultures Fund, which supports the study and preservation of world cultures.
