The management of the World Market Center exercised their bragging rights on completion of the newest building in the Las Vegas complex during the July show.
"Anyone who didn't take us seriously before, will now," said Dave Palmer, general manager of WMC. "This January we will have more than 500 permanent showrooms" in addition to temps at Cashman Center and the Pavilions.
Building B, which dwarfs the first building opened in July 2005, is a 16-story, $345 million, 1.6 million-sq.-ft. structure. The top floor will house a restaurant, business offices for industry associations, seminar and meeting spaces, as well as 20,000 square feet of outdoor/indoor multi-use event space.
At 378 feet, Building B is the tallest building in downtown Las Vegas, as well as the largest.
Space in Building B is fully leased, officials said, with tenants beginning the move-in in September. With the opening of the second building, officials said 13 of the top 25 U.S. furniture manufacturers and importers will be showing here. Floors 4 and 5 of the new building will be devoted to decorative accessories and will include some of the industry's best-known names on the roster.
Among home accent companies committed to Building B are Art in Motion, Andrea by Sadek, Bougainvillea, Chelsea House, Four Hands, Company C, Eastern Accents, Murray Feiss, Feizy Rugs, Hom Art, Interlude Home, Moe's Home Collection, NDI, Oriental Accent, Two's Company, The Uttermost Company, Paragon Picture Gallery and Robert M. Weiss Presents.
WMC officials said plans are proceeding for Building C, with steel orders placed and leasing under way. That building, scheduled for completion for the July 2008 market, will put the total space for the World Market Center at 5 million square feet. Palmer said two floors of Building C will be committed to rugs and another two to lighting fixtures.
