Dallas Market Center officials said there was a nearly 10% increase in attendance in lighting buyers who came to the market as the building was celebrating the grand opening of the 500,000-sq.-ft. Trade Mart expansion which doubled the lighting marketplace in Dallas; the 18th Annual ARTS Awards and special lighting initiatives including Headlights on Dallas and Designers in the House.
Dallas Market Center kicked-off the lighting market with a grand opening ceremony to "flip the switch" and unveil the new Trade Mart expansion. The celebration continued that night with a party for exhibitors and buyers in The Grand Pavilion at the Trade Mart.
The party culminated with the Headlights on Dallas Harley-Davidson giveaway. Fifty lighting buyers selected at random took turns trying to see if they had the right key to start the custom Harley-Davidson, worth more than $21,000. The winner was John Queen of Quality Lighting Company in Chattanooga, Tenn.
"January market was truly a lighting market like nowhere else. Dallas has dedicated 1 million square feet to the lighting industry, and the response has been amazing, with attendance up almost 10%," said Bill Winsor, president and CEO of Dallas Market Center. "In addition, January lighting buyers got to experience more new products and some really great events like Headlights on Dallas, designed just for them."
Also during the show, DMC and the Accessories Resource Team announced the winners of the ARTS Awards.
