Stones and pebbles surface in this new twist on the natural trend, playing to the inherent connection between rock and water. Soothing and sculptural designs give a nod to the tran-quility of Japanese rock gardens — where time passes slowly and changes evolve as gracefully as a stream slipping over a stone year after year. Gradually, the original shape is altered, leaving something new and fresh in its place.

Jaded, an original reproduction from B. Williams, evokes the rocky floor of an azure Mediterranean sea.
Part of the Water Collection, Michael Aram's River Rock table lamp gives the illusion of stones buffed smooth by rushing streams in polished aluminum ($725).

Safavieh's organic Tibetan rug mimics the look of pebbles placed in the earth.
Chunky stacked rocks cast a sculptural edge on Dransfield & Ross' Bedrock wooden table, modernized in pristine white ($1,465).

A patchwork square of genuine stones creates an unusual, natural place mat from Zodax ($22).
