-- Home Accents Today, 1/30/2008 6:16:00 AM

Dave Palmer is retiring from his position as general manager of World Market Center, a post he has held for seven years.

Managing partners Jack Kashani and Shawn Samson presented Palmer with the Vision Award Monday, and said he would act as an adviser and consultant to the market in the future.

Officials also revealed plans for Building D. Ron Wackrow of the Related Companies said ground will be broken this fall, with a completion date of fall 2010. The building will be 17 stories, built to merge contiguously to Building C.

Kashani said World Market Center is targeting the gift and home textiles industries with the further expansions.

Candice Olson visits Vegas

Marketgoers were invited to meet, greet and lunch with Candice Olson Monday, in celebration of Olson’s new wall decor collection for Paragon.

The collection, designed by the star of the hit television series Divine Design, is Olson’s first wall decor offering, and is exhibited in Paragon’s showroom among samples from Olson’s licensed product lines with JLA Home, Norwalk Furniture, Kravet Fabrics, AF Lighting, Hellenic Rugs and York Wallcoverings.

“Candice is such a talented designer and we are excited to have her wall decor pieces in our showroom,” said Malanta Glassco-Knowles, vice president of marketing for Paragon. “Candice’s designs are innovative and they add another dimension to our wall decor line.”

Design legend Kagan at Las Vegas Market on Thursday

Vladimir Kagan will visit Las Vegas on Thursday for two exciting events in conjunction with the 2008 Winter Las Vegas Market.

First, Kagan will kick off the new “Design Icon” lecture series at Las Vegas Design Center, where design legends share their stories and experiences in order to inspire tomorrow’s designers. He will speak from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the World Forum on the 16th floor of Building B on the World Market Center campus.

Kagan recently volunteered his services as the lead interior designer for the Junior League of Las Vegas’ Mid Century historical preservation project, the Morelli House.

To cap off his visit in Las Vegas, Kagan will visit the Morelli House, 861 Bridger Street Las Vegas, on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. for a book signing and open house. Las Vegas Market attendees and the general public are invited to attend. Complimentary transportation service will shuttle attendees from World Market Center to the Morelli House for this event and parking will be available for local guests.

The Rug Market adds Disney collection
The Rug Market is unveiling its latest license – a classic, best seller, but with a twist.

The Walt Disney Signature Collection is a lifestyle brand for adults, inspired by Mr. Disney – not by things he owned, but rather by his philosophies, including his art of storytelling.

The line includes 20 designs, all made of New Zealand wool with silk accents. The rugs are available in three sizes and will retail between $875 and $3,200, Michael Shabtai, president of The Rug Market, told Home Accents Today.

The collection is designed to coordinate with other Disney licenses with Drexel Furniture and now Minka Lighting, but also can stand on their own.

The inspiration for the designs comes from classic Disney films, such as Cinderella, Fantasia, Bambi and Snow White.

There are no characters in the rugs. Instead the Disney inspirations are quite subtle, such as a round circular geometric design inspired by the detail of a window in Sleeping Beauty.

“This collection elevates the Disney brand and covers everyone’s house – it’s not just for children” said Robert Oberschelp, director of Walt Disney Signature for Disney Consumer Products, noting that the target customers are women who grew up loving the Disney films, but who are beyond the character-themed merchandise.

The Rug Market and the other licensees are targeting department and specialty stores with the line. The rugs are expected at retail by early summer.
