CA Boom East contemporary design show to launch at October High Point Market

Eleven of twenty showrooms taken to date at Mill Village

The CA Boom East show of contemporary design is on track for an October launch at Mill Village showroom complex during High Point’s fall market. Thus far, nine exhibitors have confirmed they will be joining Cisco Brothers in the 280,000-sq.-ft. complex of former mill buildings that once housed Highland Yarns Hosiery Mill but is now a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified exhibition space. Cisco will also be taking a second space on the second floor for a new product launch.

Charles Trotter, CA Boom’s director, announced plans for CA Boom East earlier this year while attending the High Point spring market. Trotter, a native of Venice, Calif., first brought his vision of a design show for independent designers and manufacturers of contemporary home furnishings to Santa Monica in 2004. Since then the show has gained international acclaim for its promotion of contemporary and non-traditional design and architecture.  “The High Point Market continues to have the track record of consistently attracting the world’s most important furniture buyers. We see the High Point Market as the center and the future of where real furniture is made and sold and we are very excited to be associated with such a prestigious event,” Trotter said.

The Mill Village complex, at 1014 Mills Ave. in High Point, is surrounded by seven acres of natural wetlands and two acres of pitch pine and hardwood forest. The buildings feature reclaimed partitions, ramps, and staircases made 70% from metals and lumber reclaimed from the old structure and its surroundings.

Cisco Brothers’ flagship showroom, which occupies most of the first floor, debuted as Mill Village’s first occupant at High Point’s spring 2008 market. Cisco Pinedo, founder of the Los Angeles-based furniture manufacturer, has also exhibited at CA Boom West. “Having been an exhibitor at CA Boom, I saw firsthand how this show can benefit the design community on the west coast,” he said. “In addition, the Cisco brand complements CA Boom’s business values and we are excited to grow our relationship with the show on both coasts.”

Joining Cisco Brothers at Mill Village are the following designers and manufacturers, all of whom will be showing in High Point for the first time:

Davis Studios, Chatham, N.Y. – eco-porcelain pottery, tabletop and sculpture made from organic materials using processes that adhere to eco-efficient standards and practice environmental stewardship
KU Ambience, West Hollywood, Calif. -- furniture, art, lighting, ceramics and premium quality accessories in New Japan Style, using traditional Japanese methods and craftsmen

Belnot Woods Inc. – guitar wood working and craftsmanship applied to trays, bowls, serving wares

Trotter said most of the exhibitors will showcase product that is made in the country in which it is designed, or in a country using a technique that is specific to that country’s craftspeople.

Brian Casey, president and CEO of the High Point Market Authority said CA Boom East represents the next generation of contemporary designers and manufacturers and welcomes the addition to the High Point Market. “CA Boom will be complementary to where High Point is already positioned with the high-end designer community,” Casey said.

Trotter said a preview gala will be followed by more events throughout market week with a complete schedule to be announced in September. Mill Village will be open every day of market with shuttle service provided to and from the complex.
