Where the venue inspired, and the attendees perspired, as they carted up every suitcase.
Gift bags awaited the many that came seeking fun, friends and industry knowledge;
But at night when the laughter rose to the rafters, it was almost like being in college.
The first talks — on shifts, silhouettes and shops — were followed by a walk in the rain;
To put what was said to the real-life test, in four willing retailers' domains.
That night they feasted on Low Country fare of shellfish, corn pudding and more;
And followed it up with a walking ghost tour — while the rain continued to pour.
The next day they learned to negotiate, watching for scratches, nods and winks;
As the lesson included body language, and how to tell what the other guy thinks.
Another great lunch, an afternoon of change, and the fringe began to fly;
The ladies became flappers, the gents grew more dapper and, finally, they had a clear sky.
The gang took a seat and smiled really sweet for the photo before the big meal;
Then the curtains parted, the music started and they applauded the great reveal.
Dinner was served, the dancing commenced and as quickly as the party started,
Midnight arrived unexpectedly and the flappers and gangsters departed.
Now they're all back at work, some more enlightened, some of them talking in rhyme;
And there's always next year, for those who stayed here and missed out on a truly great time.
