Boston — Susan Thomas Home opened in November. The 7,000-sq.-ft. independently owned store, located at 100 Highland Avenue in Needham, is the first of several independently owned Habersham Home retail boutiques, galleries and to-the-trade showrooms scheduled to open over the next two quarters. Habersham Feathers, the first complete Habersham Home Store, will open in Scottsdale, Ariz. in January of 2009.

San Francisco — ElizabethW niche perfumery opened its first retail boutique at historic Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco. The store's products include perfume, bath and body, gifts for the home, travel and closet solutions such as silk and linen drawer liners. Owner Albert Nichols named his San Francisco perfumery after Elizabeth Wightman, his great-grandmother, the inspiration for his business. All ElizabethW products are designed by Nichols and created onsite in his San Francisco workshop.


Chicago — Designer Alessandra Branca has launched branca.com, an online presentation of the lifestyle presented at her Chicago retail boutique. In addition to a portfolio of interiors, branca.com features an e-commerce “Window Shopping” section of home decor and gifts. Branca is located at 17 East Pearson Street.
Hampton, Va. — Target Corp. announced it will open a new concept store at the Peninsula Town Center in Hampton, Va., in July 2009. The store will represent a new company prototype, a mix between a general merchandise Target and a Super Target.
New York — Japanese retailer Muji opened its fourth U.S. store at 16 West 19th Street in Chelsea, offering over 1,450 household items and 350 apparel items in 3,434 square feet of retail space.
Baltimore —Bluehouse opened its second Baltimore-area location at the Shops at Kenilworth in Towson, Md. The store features a 33-foot wide “living wall” by Mundo Verde Ortega, the architecture of local designer Dianne Rohrer, and the contracting work of David Welzel.
Charlotte, N.C. — Ikea announced that its future Charlotte, N.C. store will open on Wed., Feb. 18, 2009. It will be the company's first store in the Carolinas and 36th in the U.S. The 356,000-sq.-ft. Ikea Charlotte, with 1,600 parking spaces, is being built on 25 acres in the University City area, at the northeastern corner of I-85 and City Blvd.
Austin, Minn. — Fast Frame Gallery and Silver Pear Gift Shoppe opened at 315 First St., Lyle.
St. Louis Park, Minn. — Martha O'Hara Interiors luxury furniture warehouse and showroom opened at 6900 Oxford St.
Mustang, Okla. — Cosby Ranch, a barn, home and pet store, opened at 1150 East State Highway 152. The store features rustic and western home decor, clothing, barn and pet supplies, animal feed and tack.
Encinitas, Calif. — Debra Greenspan and Peggy Jennings of Rancho Santa Fe, along with Casey Fenton, Lynn Hoaglin, Kim Sandler, Anne Gilchrist, Carol Tager, Laura McDonald and Kathy King of La Jolla, celebrated the grand opening of their new showroom at 565 Westlake Street. The showroom features elegant furnishings and antiques from the 16th-19th centuries as well as decorative arts and lighting from all over Europe.
Chattanooga, Tenn. — Smart Furniture Studio opened at the Two North Shore Retail Center located on Manufacturers Road in North Chattanooga. T.J. Gentle, Smart Furniture's president and CEO said customers can come in, speak with designers and work with technology tools to design their own custom furniture in the showroom. In addition, the store carries a complete portfolio of modern and contemporary furniture products made by other manufacturers.
Kingsport, Tenn. –Decorators Warehouse opened a 10,000-sq.-ft. store at Kingsport Pavilion, selling wall decor, lamps, home accents, furniture, floral items and gifts.
Chatsworth, Calif. – Abbyson Living opened a second Power of Home store in Agoura Hills, outside Los Angeles, on Nov. 1. Encouraged by the performance of the Power of Home flagship store in Chatsworth's Westfield Topanga Shopping Center, the new site is twice as large at 20,000 square feet.
Tampa, Fla. — Ikea has broken ground for a store in Tampa, scheduled to open in the summer of 2009 as the 3rd Ikea store in Florida and the 37th in the U.S. The 353,000-sq.-ft. Ikea Tampa will be built on 29 acres along Adamo Drive at 22nd Street and the Crosstown Expressway.
