Buyer and designer attendance Monday on the opening day of the Las Vegas Market was down just 2% from the January 2008 first day, according to World Market Center officials.
In addition, 6,527 new buyers have visited the market for the first time so far this week, organizers said. The market did not release a total attendance number for Monday.
"We are excited by the interest we're seeing from every segment of the industry," said Bob Maricich, president and CEO of the WMC, which hosts the market. "It's reassuring to know that business people are aggressively positioning themselves for future success and taking advantage of the unparalleled offerings in Las Vegas."
Maricich said this week's market traffic is exceeding expectations, especially since many trade shows and markets are seeing significant dips in attendance.
A market press release quoted a number of buyers and exhibitors who gave positive reviews of the first day.
