Denham C. Lunt of Lunt Silversmiths dies

Denham C. Lunt Jr., former president of Lunt Silversmiths, died Wed., Feb. 11, at his home in Greenfield, Mass. after a period of declining health.

Lunt, 82, graduated from Deerfield Academy and Williams College. In 1948 he began working in the factory of Lunt Silversmiths, the company founded by his grandfather in 1902. He eventually became president and chairman of the board of the company, serving in that capacity until his retirement in 1990.

His service to the jewelry industry included 30 years on the executive committee of the Silver Users Assn. of Washington, D.C., president of the Sterling Silversmiths Guild of America, a two-year term on the board of the Jewelry Industry Council, president of the Boston Jewelers Club, and president of the 24 Karat Club of the City of New York. He also served on the boards of Buxton, Berkshire Life, and Northeast Utilities.

Lunt’s community involvement included service as president of the United Way of Franklin County, board member of Franklin Medical Center, and member of the Boards of Trustees at Bement School and Deerfield Academy. He was also a member of the Greenfield Community College Foundation.

Lunt was predeceased by his wife Norma Sheehan Lunt in 1978, and second wife Caroline Roberts Lunt in 1998. He leaves several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, a great grandchild, nieces and nephews, and extended family members and friends.
