Home Accents Today, together with its sister publication Gifts & Decorative Accessories and sponsor George Little Management, conducted a Passport to Paradise contest during January’s New York International Gift Fair to add a little fun and adventure for retailers at the show and to encourage them to shop all four venues of the show. The winner of the a six night/seven day stay at the Inn on Fifth in Old Naples, FL, is, is Kim Mikeska, owner of Papel in San Angelo, Texas.
Retailer entrants picked up a “passport” from any registration area at the show and had to validate the passport entry cards at four locations, the booths of co-sponsoring vendors: Trapp Private Gardens, Achla, Global Views and Baekgaard.
Mikeska's passport was selected in a prize drawing from among those completed by retailers who had their passports stamped by the four co-sponsoring locations.
The store owner has been retailing since 1992, but opened this new location in June 2007. While the store mainly focuses on stationery and invitations, the gift side of the business has grown in this new spot, she said. Mikeska operates a small operation; the boutique is just 1,500 square feet and is run by her and two employees.
She’s excited about taking a small break and heading to sunny Florida. “I’m excited. I’ve never been to that part of Florida,” she said.
