High Point Market received International Buyer Program designation

U.S. Dept of Commerce to assist in recruitment of international buyers

-- Home Accents Today, 3/10/2009 6:32:00 AM

The High Point Market Authority has announced that the Spring 2010 High Point Market has been designated a U.S. Commercial Service International Buyer Program event by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

According to Brian D. Casey, president and chief executive officer of the High Point Market Authority, the IBP program is designed to connect U.S. companies with foreign customers, and to raise global awareness of a designated event. The High Point Market is among more than 40 U.S. trade events representing major industry business sectors that have been selected for the IBP by the U.S. Commercial Service for calendar year 2010.

“Throughout the past year we have been working closely with the U.S. Commercial Service and its network of trade specialists in U.S. embassies around the world to promote the High Point Market,” Casey said. “The U.S. Commercial Service’s inaugural presence at Spring Market 2008 helped demonstrate the strength of these collaborative efforts. In addition to the buyers from more than 110 countries that attend our Market, last year, U.S. Commercial Service trade specialists helped in the recruitment of major delegations from Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Thailand and the West African countries of Benin, Burkina, Guinea, Mali and Senegal among others. This resulted in many new export sales during the Market and in the months following. This spring, we expect to attract additional buyers from Saudi Arabia, Kenya, and other countries that have been targeted for our market development efforts.”

Matchmaking activities between delegates, foreign buyers and exhibitors are led by U.S. Commercial Service personnel throughout market week. “We’re looking to build upon our presence at High Point Market and we encourage exhibitors to stop at the International Business Center for matchmaking and other services,” said Eugene Quinn, international trade specialist. “With all of these potential buyers in a single location, we can save exhibitors time and resources in targeting potential overseas agents and distributors. We’ll be on hand to assist companies of all sizes, and particularly want to help small- to mid-size businesses that may never have considered exporting in the past.”

“I’m pleased that the U.S. Commercial Service has selected us over other shows in the home furnishings industry sector for several years now to facilitate trade initiatives,” Casey said. “With its network of offices across the U.S., and in more than 80 countries, their global presence and international marketing expertise should be seen as a positive endorsement of the value of the High Point Market to the home furnishings industry sector.”
