Michael Payne, renowned designer and original host of the long-running HGTV series Designing for the Sexes, has teamed up with contemporary rug producer Foreign Accents to develop a new line of area rugs.
“We are very excited to be working with Michael Payne,” said Trish Rempen, president and CEO of Foreign Accents. “Our partnership is a natural fit given his passion for clean, contemporary design, his association with other leading contemporary home furnishings companies and our 25-year history making contemporary rugs,”
“I am honored to be involved with this progressive, creative company with an acknowledged reputation as a premier contemporary rug supplier in the United States,” Payne said. “Foreign Accents manufactures high-quality area rugs in a variety of stunning designs, and I welcome the opportunity to become part of their creative force.”
Payne said that while designing, he likes to look at the familiar in fresh ways.
“In designing rugs for Foreign Accents, I get my inspiration from nature and a variety of commonplace items, then translate them into dramatic forms,” he said. “For instance, the Los Angeles freeway network inspired me to interpret that system into a graphic design for an area rug.”
Rugs in the Michael Payne Home Collection will be hand-tufted in Favriel, Foreign Accents’ signature modified acrylic yarn that has a wool-like hand. The designs will be showcased, along with other products in the Michael Payne Home Collection, this fall at the Las Vegas and High Point markets.
“It is great to be working with Michael and his marketing team,” said Pam Witt, Foreign Accents’ sales administrator. “Michael understands the value of simplicity for today’s retailer and end-consumer – be it in the design and marketing of a well-balanced collection that will stand out in a retailer’s showroom or helping the consumer reduce the complexity in designing, selecting products and creating a simple elegance in their home.”
