Pinnacle Awards deadline extended to June 20

ASFD program seeks more entries

-- Home Accents Today, 6/16/2009 7:55:00 AM

The entry deadline for this years Pinnacle Awards honoring excellence in home furnishings design has been extended until June 20, and the late entry fee has been dropped.

The American Society of Furniture Designers is hoping to encourage more entries in the annual competition.

Finalists will be announced in a full-page ad in Furniture/Today after the judging this month. Winners will be honored Oct. 19 during a gala dinner in the International Home Furnishings Center during the High Point Market.

The Pinnacle poster and entry form are available online at www.asfdpinnacle.com/downloads.php. For a free poster and entry form by mail, contact the ASFD's Christine Evans by e-mail at info@asfd.com or by phone at (910) 576-1273.

With the deadline fast approaching, Pinnacle entries must be sent by Express Mail to ASFD.
Furniture/Today is the major underwriter of the awards. Additional support and sponsorship is provided by AkzoNobel, Appalachian Hardwoods, Elmo Leather, Furniture Design Studios, Häfele America, High Point Market Authority, Home Lighting and Accessories, Hickory Springs Mfg., Home Furnishings Business, the IHFC and Leggett & Platt.

Judges for this year's Pinnacles are Richard Bennington, High Point University; Gary Evans, Furniture/Today; Ellen Gefen, Gefen Productions; Jackie Hirschhaut, American Home Furnishings Alliance; Linda Longo, Home Lighting & Accessories and Contract Lighting Magazine; Sheila Long O'Mara, Home Furnishings Business; Kip Pohlman, Otis College of Art & Design; Chuck Portaro, Furnitureland South; Max Shangle, Kendall College of Art & Design; Julie Smith, trend consultant; Steve Walker, North Carolina State University; and Dianne Ray, Garden City Furniture.

The Pinnacle Design Achievement awards were created in April 1995 by the ASFD board to promote design quality and encourage the recognition of furniture designers within the retail home furnishings industry. As such, the awards are intended to celebrate designs that are produced in large numbers for sale to customers through retail stores.
